Are HBCUs the Key to Producing More African American Physicians?


African Americans make up 13 percent of the population, yet barely 4 percent of the nation’s doctors are black, and less than 2 percent are black women. This week on the podcast, we talk to a Dallas doctor and her husband who think Historically Black Colleges and Universities may be some of the best pathways for people of color interested in careers in medicine. Another way to put kids on the road to medical careers, according to Dr. Myiesha Taylor? The children’s cartoon Doc McStuffins. Taylor started a Twitter campaign called #WeAreDocMcStuffins, which highlights women of color who are physicians.
